Introducing the UBC Master of Data Science Class of 2025

Last month, the latest cohort of the UBC Master of Data Science Vancouver, Okanagan, and Computational Linguistics students started their 10-month journey towards a data science and computational linguistics career.

The students that make up the class of 2025 come from all over the world and from diverse backgrounds.

Let us get to know the Class of 2025.

MDS Vancouver

  • Class size: 119
  • This year's cohort we welcomed our first student from Azerbaijan. Cambodia, Myanmar, and Trinidad and Tobago
  • As well, our MDS Master Card Scholarship recipients hail from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda.
  • 45% identify as female.
  • Academic backgrounds include English Literature, Neuroscience, and Geospatial Science
  • Prior to joining the MDS program, 30 of our students have completed another advanced degree (Master’s, PhD).
  • 44% of the class of 2025 enter the program with 3+ years of work experience. 

MDS Okanagan

  • Class size: 37 new students
  • This year's cohort is comprised of students from China, Mexico, South Korea, and Sri Lanka
  • 43% identify as female.
  • Academic backgrounds include Kinesiology, Meteorology, and Psychology
  • Prior to joining the MDS program, 5 of our students have completed another advanced degree (Master’s, PhD).
  • 43% of the class of 2025 enter the program with 3+ years of work experience.

MDS Computational Linguistics

  • Class size: 32 new students
  • This year's cohort is comprised of students from Hong Kong, Pakistan, Panama and Thailand
  • 47% identify as female
  • Academic backgrounds include Linguistics, Philosophy and Anthropology
  • Prior to joining the MDS program, 7 of our students have completed another advanced degree (Master’s, PhD).
  • 28% of the class of 2025 enter the program with 3+ years of work experience.
