Mentoring Program

About the Program

Since 2020, the UBC Master of Data Science (MDS) Mentoring program have welcomed Data Science professionals to mentor their students. If you are a Data Science professional who is interested in sharing your experiences, insights and advice with students, please consider becoming a mentor. Mentors will also have the opportunity to network with other mentors and professionals during the events organized as part of the program.

In this video, mentors and mentees talk about why they wanted to join the program.

Become a Mentor

Program Commitments and Structure:

  • The program begins in November and continues until April.
  • Mentor is matched with two MDS students.
  • Matches are made based on your application form and will include multiple factors, including Data Science interest areas and career interest areas.

  • Mentors will meet with their matched students twice during the program (at the minimum; your mentoring trio can decide to meet more if you wish). You have the option of holding your meetings in-person or online.
  • You will need to commit to an estimated 10-15 hours of time over a 6-month period (November to April)
  • Mentors will be invited to participate in a Wrap-up event in April to network with students and other mentors.
